Global Breathe Along
Four slow minutes, together. At 11:11 in your own time zone this page starts a gentle breath by itself: in for 4, out for 6. As the clock reaches 11:11 in one place after another, the same breath rolls around the world. It is free for everyone, with no book, no account and nothing recorded.
Leave this page open before 11:11. If you arrive late, it picks up in the middle of the breath, so you are still in step. The calendar reminder rings five minutes before 11:11 in whatever time zone your calendar is in.
Starts at 11:11
Nothing about you is stored or sent. Your time zone is read from your device to work out your 11:11. Choose a soft tone before 11:11 if you want to hear it begin.
Around the world
The wave, place by place
It begins at Kiritimati, where 11:11 on 11 November is 21:11 UTC on 10 November, and reaches American Samoa 25 hours later. The times on the right are on your own clock. See the wave on the world map, beside the 33 launches of the book.
How it works
Open this page before 11:11
Use a phone, a laptop or a screen in the room. At 11:11 on your clock the guide starts by itself. Put your phone down on a table if you like; the orb and the count are large.
One breath, one rhythm
In for 4, out for 6, for four minutes: 24 breaths, with no breath-holding and no fast breathing. Every time zone's clock sits on a quarter-hour and one breath takes 10 seconds, so if your device clock is right you breathe in step with everyone else.
Miss it? Join any time
The guide is yours all day on 11 November and every day after. You can practise it right now to see how it feels. The 33-day practice it comes from is here, free, with no book needed.
A note on the date
11 November is also a day of remembrance
In many countries 11 November is Remembrance Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day, and in the UK and parts of the Commonwealth a two-minute silence is kept at 11:00. If that matters to you, keep it first. These four minutes begin eleven minutes later and are offered with respect for everyone who remembers.
Safety first
A gentle breath, with a few clear rules
- Sit or lie down somewhere safe. Never do this while driving, cycling, swimming, in the bath or while using machinery.
- There are no breath-holds and no rapid breathing here. If counting feels tense, breathe at your own pace or simply sit quietly with the orb.
- If you are pregnant or have a heart, lung or blood-pressure condition, epilepsy, a panic disorder or a history of fainting, check with your doctor first, and feel free to follow your natural breath instead of the count.
- Stop and breathe normally if you feel dizzy, uncomfortable or anxious. This is educational, not medical advice.
Keep it on your phone
Add Breathe Along to your home screen
It opens full-screen like an app, works without a connection once opened, and takes almost no space. It is still just this free page: no store, no account.
For schools, workplaces, congregations, clinics and families
Host a Breathe Along
You need a room, a screen and four minutes. Nobody has to register, and you do not need to tell us you did it.
- Open this page on the room's screen at about 11:05 on 11 November, by your own clock, and turn the sound to a soft tone if you want one. It begins at 11:11 by itself.
- Read the short welcome below and the safety line. Ask anyone who prefers not to follow the count to sit quietly or breathe naturally.
- Let the four minutes run. Then stay quiet for a few more breaths, and thank everyone.
